A Host Home Provider is an individual or family who wants to make a difference in the life of an adult with IDD while having the satisfaction of owning their own business. Host Home Providers welcome a person with IDD into their lives and home to become part of their family and provide the support and companionship they need to thrive. With the support of the Cheyenne Village staff and other human services professionals, Host Home Providers become trusted caregivers, friends and advocates for the individual with whom they live.

As a Host Home Provider, you can earn a stipend between $1,800 – $4,000 per month. The stipend varies based on the needs of the individual you support. In addition, the individual also pays a monthly contracted fee for room and board. However, as an Independent Contractor with Cheyenne Village, no employee benefits are provided.

Because we want to match the individuals we serve with a Host Home Provider that fits well with their cultural orientation and individual lifestyle, Cheyenne Village is looking for Host Home Providers with a wide range of backgrounds and experience. Host Home Providers may be empty nesters looking for companionship and a way to give back, retirees looking for extra income, or social services professionals with experience caring for adults with IDD.

Host Home Providers may be married, single, male or female and represent a wide range of ethnicities and religions. One trait all Host Home Providers have is their commitment to care for and make a positive difference in someone’s life.

Host Home Providers must be 21 or older, pass a background check, obtain Host Home insurance, homeowner or renter’s insurance, automobile insurance and a business trade name with the State of Colorado.

Host Home Providers are responsible for basic home care and related responsibilities. This includes providing nutritious meals, transportation to medical appointments and recreational activities, ensuring access to community activities, and supervision based on the needs of the individual you are supporting. Host Home Providers are also required to implement individual service plans, maintain records and documentation regarding the services and supports being provided, and complete required CPR, First Aid and Medication Administration trainings. A computer is required to utilize a web-based electronic records system.

The people who receive services in a Host Home Provider’s home have varying degrees of developmental disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy or epilepsy. Some may be very independent and able to go out into the community on their own and even have a job, while others will need more support.  Our staff will match you with a person whose needs fit your lifestyle.

Most people who choose to live with a family will also have a job, work training or other activity during the day.  However, employment or other day activities are not required and some people may wish to stay home during the day.  Our team will work with you to be sure that the needs, preferences and choices of the individual who comes to live with you can be supported by your schedule.

As a Host Home Provider, you’re never alone. Our on call support is available 24/7. Each home is assigned a coordinator who is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day success of an individual’s home. The coordinator ensures that the individual’s needs are being met in the home and that their plan of care is being followed.  They will visit the individual and the Host Home Provider in the home regularly. Cheyenne Village Nurses will coordinate healthcare for the individual and the Benefits Coordinator will manage Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security benefits.

Our goal, through our matching process, is to ensure that you and the person who comes to live with you know each other well and will be able to live together comfortably. Some of our most successful placements have lasted for decades, while others have lasted a few years and then either the Host Home Provider’s or the individual’s needs change and the placement ends—though in many cases a life-long friendship endures.
