Linda Carter was born and raised in Massachusetts. Being the second of eight children, she learned early on the benefits of negotiation and teamwork, while maintaining a strong sense of self. After graduating from high school, she moved to Colorado in 1978 to pursue her education, independence and future.
After arriving in Colorado, she began a career in the restaurant industry, where she was promoted to the position of General Manager, and then Regional Manager. In 1996, she accepted the position of Director at the Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center. In 2001, she was promoted to Chief Operating Officer for the Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center and Seven Falls Company’s. She is the President of the Pikes Peak Country Attractions Association and a board member of Tour Colorado. Linda has been an active volunteer all her life; she has done volunteer work for United Way, Wagon Wheel Council Girl Scouts, and Christmas Unlimited.
Linda is currently attending CU at Colorado Springs as a graduate student in the MBA program, with an emphasis on Services Management. She is a 2003 graduate of Leadership Pikes Peak.
Linda and her husband have been married for 23 years and they have 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren. Together, Linda and her husband own a small automotive repair business in Manitou Springs. Linda has lived in Colorado Springs for 27 years and considers this her home and cares about the future of this community.

 

 

‘Bert’ Fellows has received the Clara Barton medal from the Red Cross, the Service to Mankind Award from Sertoma and the ‘Bert’ Fellows Volunteer of the Year award. She has been a member of Arc and served as chair of the board for 3 years. Bert was an original board member of Silver Key and served as the Board Chair. She has served on the Guardianship committee, and Goodwill Board. Bert feels she has a lot to offer Cheyenne Village, as a parent of one of our clients, as a previous board member and as a promoter of Cheyenne Village.

 

 

 

 

 

George is a retired former City Manager.  He has a daughter, Georganne, who is a resident of Cheyenne Village and he has been involved with CV for more than 25 years.  In his retirement George is a member of the finance committee of the city-owned Memorial Hospital. George also enjoys silver-smithing and is a member of the Arati Gallery – a co-op group of member artists.

 

 

 

 

 

Vickie recently retired as the Director of Personnel at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. She attended Pikes Peak Community College, Regis College and University of Denver, Graduate School. Her volunteer activities have included Board of Trustees at Memorial Hospital, Citizen Member of the Budget committee ( Memorial Hospital). Vickie is a Colorado Springs native with strong ties to the community. She also has a strong personal and professional interest in the needs and interests of the disabled, and desire to participate in programs of aid and support for those in need.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mary Ellen and her husband Dr. Michael McNally moved to Colorado Springs in 1964. They have 4 children and 5 grandchildren. Their oldest daughter, Beth, has been a client of Cheyenne Village for 23 years.

Mary Ellen has held 2 elected offices: District Eleven Board of Education and the Colorado Springs City Council. She is an active community volunteer and has served on several community boards including the Economic Development Corporation, Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Goodwill Industries, Colorado Springs Leadership Institute. Currently she is serving on Memorial Health System Foundation Board, UCCS Chancellor's Roundtable, American Red Cross Pikes Peak Chapter, Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, and American National Bank Board of Directors.

She has a strong commitment to Cheyenne Village because of the remarkable progress her daughter has made toward independent living.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jennifer is the Associate Pastor at First Presbyterian Church on Bijou. She works mainly with young adults in their twenties who are seeking to integrate life and faith. Jennifer grew up in Colorado Springs, and has a desire to see the city grow and develop in its ability to meet needs of residents. Her interest in Cheyenne Village, Inc. comes from her interest in organizations that “promote the integration of all peoples into our community”. Terry is not only a member of the Board of Directors but is also a client of Cheyenne Village, Inc. Terry has worked with Goodwill Industries at the Air Force Academy. She brings to the Board the unique perspective of a recipient of the services provided by Cheyenne Village, Inc. Terry works at Goodwill Industries and lives in her own apartment.

Susan Watkins co-owns KezziahWatkins, a consulting firm that specializes in the design of decision-making processes. With a degree in journalism from Colorado State University, Susan came to Colorado Springs right out of college in 1971 and worked at the Colorado Springs Gazette as a reporter and editor. In 1975 she shifted her career focus, working as the Public Information Officer for the Pikes Peak Library District, and then as Senior Public Policy Analyst for the City of Colorado Springs. She served as Director of Public Communications for the City of Colorado Springs for six years before starting her consulting business in 1991.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

James A. Cara (Jim) is President of Systems Management Corporation, a Colorado Springs company that he has owned since January, 1985. Its primary focus is computer consulting and security. Previously Jim was Information Technology Manager for Dysan Corporation in Colorado.

Jim’s community involvement has included the Down Syndrome Association, Special Olympics, Special Needs Volunteer at Pine Valley Elementary and Mountain Ridge Middle School, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Colorado Springs Conservatory, Pikes Peak United Way, Gay & Lesbian Fund of Colorado, Academy School District 20, Colorado Mountain Reclamation Foundation, The Performing Arts for Youth Organization, and Leadership Pikes Peak.

Jim, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1983, has been married to his wonderful wife, Judy, for eight years and is the proud father of Kimberly, aged 14, and Kelsey, who has Down Syndrome, aged 17. Other family members include Tigger the cat, who was adopted from our local Humane Society; Tonja, a black Labrador, who was adopted from our local Canine Companions; and Tuck, a yellow Labrador.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Gary is retired after 35 years of service with the City of Colorado Springs. His career with the city began in 1970 as a Civil Engineer II and he held the position of City Engineer for the last 22 years of his service. As the City Engineer, he managed the City Engineering Division overseeing the design and construction of streets, bridges, storm sewers, drainage facilities, and special projects including the review and inspection of subdivision public improvements.
Gary graduated from Palmer High School in Colorado Springs and received Bachelor of Science degrees in Civil Engineering and Business from the University of Colorado in Boulder. He, also, has a Master of Arts degree in Management from Webster University.
He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the American Public Works Association (APWA) holding various volunteer positions with each organization in past years. He was instrumental in establishing APWA scholarships for civil engineers at the University of Colorado and Colorado State University.

Shay Dickerson

 

James G. Harding is an experienced COO and CFO. He holds a BBA with majors in both Finance and Insurance from the University of Iowa and took graduate courses in accounting at Colorado State University. He was Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Director of Peak Health Care, Inc. which consisted of a six-state chain of HMOs, insurance companies, preferred provider organizations and pharmacies. He was instrumental in building those entities from $900 thousand gross revenue to over $100 million. The company was recognized as one of the “Top One Hundred Growth Companies” in America by Business Week Magazine and had the highest profit margins in the HMO industry at that time. He handled both an initial stock offering (IPO) and secondary offering for the company, was integral in various company startups, acquisitions, dispositions and the subsequent sale of the entire company. He was in charge of finance, investments, accounting, information systems, legal, risk management, underwriting, financial analysis, budget, accounts receivable, public and stockholder relations, S.E.C. reporting, facilities, banking relations, mergers, acquisitions and much of operations.

Subsequent to this, Mr. Harding served as Executive Vice President and CFO of Excell, Inc., a large construction and systems claims consulting firm. There he did considerable work in mergers and acquisitions and was instrumental in the restructuring, growth and subsequent sale of that company as well as the sale of subsidiary and affiliated companies.

He is also President of The Talis Corporation which is a land development company. He does and has done management, financial and M&A consulting for high tech, healthcare and other companies including Aon Risk Services, Inc., Interactive Images, Inc., RMRM, Inc., Excell, Inc., WesPac Contructors, Inc., International Consulting Enterprises, Inc., Team Management Services, Inc., Pike Tool, Inc., Primary Health, Inc. , 3Si, Inc. and Amata Corporation. Mr. Harding served as CFO then COO for DMCare, Inc. a developmental company doing diabetes management services.

 

 

Shay Dickerson taught school in the Louisiana school system for 13 years before moving to Mississippi where she was a realtor with Coldwell Banker. After relocating to Colorado Springs, she was owner of Dynasty Accents home interiors. She and her husband, Ted, now live in the Broadmoor Resort Community where she serves as a member of the welcoming committee. Shay is on the board at Memorial Hospital, presently a member of the Capital Campaign Committee for Memorial, was a member of the Women’s Call to Action, and has served as an officer in the Newcomers Club and board for Broadmoor Village.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Joe Zeman’s professional experience includes 33 yrs. as a Human Resources Professional, 4 yrs. as a Safety and Training Engineer promoted to Manager of Labor Relations and Training; 7 yrs. as a Labor Relations Representative and Supervisor of Human Resources and Communication; 20 in HR Mgt. with 8 yrs. as Vice President of Human Resources directing all aspects of HR including staffing reporting to the President of a Company of 1100 employees, $120 Million in revenues, 5 locations in 3 states; 6 yrs. Compensation Mgr, Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with direct responsibility for staffing offers of employment as to wages and salaries as well as wage and salary guidelines and policy – Progressive leadership/management experience of 16 years promoted as Human Resources Manager, Director, and Vice President for Truck-Lite Corporation from 1984-2000 Joe’s family includes his wonderful and lovely wife Brenda and two lovely daughters Genevieve, 20, and Natalie, 18. Joe enjoys playing acoustic guitar and singing.
