Welcome to Cheyenne Village, Inc., founded in 1971 by a group of visionary parents of adult children with developmental disabilities. As one of the first community programs in the nation serving adults with developmental disabilities, the goal was to help individuals with developmental disabilities live as independently as possible through individualized support to meet each individual’s needs. Cheyenne Village is a place where people with developmental disabilities live and work as the rest of us do; contributing to society, making independent choices, and pursuing their own vision of happiness. Cheyenne Village is the oldest locally founded and governed non-profit organization in the Pikes Peak Region providing residential programs for adults with developmental disabilities.

Cheyenne Village provides a variety of customized services designed to maximize each individual’s life potential. Services include supervised residential support in group homes or with a host family, and residential and housing services to individuals who live independently in their own apartments. We also provide government benefits coordination and healthcare services and coordination. Additionally, we have partnered with community businesses and organizations to provide job placement services and community participation opportunities.

In 2006, Cheyenne Village launched a new program in the Pikes Peak Region to support individuals over age 18 with developmental disabilities who live with senior caregivers over the age of 60. The program is designed to preserve the family unit as long as possible and to facilitate a smooth transition when the individual with developmental disabilities can no longer live in the family home. El Paso, Park and Teller counties have approximately 1,000 people with developmental disabilities on a waiting list for state-funded benefits and services. Many are living at home with senior family members who are the primary caregivers. This program aims to reach those families and assist them in identifying the needs of the individual with a developmental disability, developing a family service plan, and providing support and referral services for a complete healthcare assessment, benefits coordination, homemaking and personal care.

Cheyenne Village is certified by the Colorado Division for Developmental Disabilities and licensed by the Colorado Department of Health. In 2006, the Colorado Division for Developmental Disabilities survey quoted, “ Cheyenne Village is commended for its commitment to providing quality services and respect individual needs and preferences.”
